November 2008 Whippet contracted me to build this website for an interior designers comany. I was provided with designs and asked to make the whole site as flexible and dynamic as possible, with the content easily updateable using XML files. It features a postcardViewer component (in the Collections section). |

August 2008 Duke Digital comissioned me to make 10 movies for Nissan, exploring the various aspects of the new Nissan Murano and Qashqai cars. The movies were based on storyboards Duke had drawn up, using (mostly) still imagery as the assets. I used the 3D camera to pan around the images, which I had seperated into layers to create a feeling of depth, and used a 3D particle system for the whooshes. |

March 2008 Saint commissioned me to design and make an intro movie to their data visualisation microsite (called Spectrum) that they were building for the BBCs White Season. I was asked to create a swirling cluster of thousands of coloured particles. I made a black and white animation using a 3D particle system in After Effects, then streamed it into Flash where it was coloured by a blurred pie-chart representing the data. I also created a 10 second promo for the site that was shown on BBC 1. The site was a finalist in the Cannes Lions award. |

June 2008 Saint Digital commissioned me to create an animated video to use as a background video on their redesigned website, based on a static design by Rob Northam. I arranged all the elements in 3D space in After Effects and had the camera move around slightly to give depth and the effect of floating in the scene. I used particle systems to create the background and clouds, and Flash to animate the graphical elements at the edges. The actionscripters made it fullscreen, but it slowed the interface down too much so the original static design was used instead. Ah well.. |

May 2008 Digital ad to be shown on outdoor screens around London featuring a 3D swoosh, built in After Effects. |

March 2008 Volvic ran an initiative where they built wells in Africa, thus providing water equivalent to 10 litres for every litre they sell. Saint made a microsite for it and asked me to build a Totaliser - an animation showing how many litres had been donated so far. I filmed a small cog turning, for the water-wheel, and used a particle system in After Effects to create the ‘water’. Actionscripters hooked up the display to live data. |

Minisite for Lawgiverz, electro-breakbeat artists. Client wanted a minimal site, with all content easily updatable. I made the Flash movie as a container, which pulls in text files (with dynamic scrollers), video, and audio, which the client can easily update themselves. The audio is particularly flexible, as it randomly selects an mp3 from a folder to stream in the background, and incidental noises occasionally loop in and out, making the whole site a constantly changing piece of music itself. All sounds should fade in and out, instead of stopping and starting abruptly, including the streaming MP3 player. Still under construction, due to go live any day now.. |

October 2007 Suite of banners, ranging from 30k to 40k, promoting the Orange Unlimited concept. with code by Katie Stockton for the starburst. |
November 2007 Movies to sit on Landrover site, as part of their 60th anniversary celebrations. Client wanted a mix of their TV ads and launch movies over the years. |
November 2007 Expandable banner featuring streamed motion graphics. The advance in Flash video means that TV and movie quality animation and motion graphics can be created in After Effects and streamed into Flash, to be mixed with Flash content. The lines and notes were synchronised with the soundtrack in After Effects and mixed with blue and green ‘lighting’ in Flash. Flash 8 brings the option of transparency in video footage, so much more can be achieved. |
March 2007 Rich Media expandable banner and overlay, based on Landrover’s ‘Cinematographer’ campaign. Video, including the TV ad, was treated and edited in After Effects, and is streamed into the banner and the overlay. |

October 2006 Adidas commissioned several agencies to design and build 'rooms' to go on adidas.com, showing their latest collections of clothing. This one was 'Black and White'. I was given designs and asked to put it together in Flash, as well as to edit and process the video footage of the models, keying them out of their green-screened background and enabling them to be rotated. I commissioned some sound fx and created the gloopy dripping masking effect, which I based on some footage I shot of glue dripping down a wall. It can be seen on adidas.com, under 'originals'. I was asked to provide animations for the various items that appear on the evolution 'desktop', which holds their content. I was given graphics and asked to make a stickie note unfold, and a sketchbook and brochure open and close.

November 2005 Role: Design/Actionscripting Client: Lee Burridge I was given a design and asked to build a Flash site from it, with all the content easily updatable. All the content is pulled in from external files, and a dynamic scroller scrolls through it. |
February 2005 Role: Flash Design/Actionscripting Client: Intelligent Energy Agency: Taylor Lane Taylor Lane comissioned me to build a Flash microsite for Intelligent Energy's new 'env' mountain bike/motorcycle hybrid, based on a non-polluting energy source, 'the Core'. I was given static designs and asked to build the site in Flash, including the navigation system and to script all the movement, instead of using the traditional timeline-based technique. This proved so successful that I plan on using it for most of my work in Flash in the future, as it offers fluid, natural, physics-based movement that canŐt be achieved in any other way. Also features a movieclip scroller, which changes dynamically depending on the specific content (used here for the text panel). |

Banner starts with a boring English scene, then the tablecloth gets whipped out, the teapots and cups fly into the air, then land in a garden in the sun. |
November 2004 Role: Design, Video Editing, Animation Client: Ford Agency: Wunderman Ford Mondeo expandable banner ad, based on the TV ads showing how animals use quick responses to evade danger. The client wanted video, so I sourced video footage and made a short film in after effects. Using the same techniques as the Freelander comic-book animation, I then attempted to get the file-size under 100k, selecting and treating various frames and combining them with graphics and static imagery in Flash. The banner also contains an expandable 'more info' section that also had to be included in the 100k limit. |
Banner based on TV ad showing the Christmas wrapping machine. One of the characters gets wrapped up by accident. |
I was asked to show advertising hoardings at the side of a football pitch, and animate some football questions in that style. |
September 2004 Role: Video Editing, Animation Client: LandRover Agency: Wunderman Expandable banner and overlay showing a comic-book style animated remix of the TV advert. I treated the footage in After Effects and outputted key scenes as image sequences. In Photoshop i went through the frames individually, saving off transparent gifs to be imported into Flash, where I layered it up with animations and copy text. I then commissioned an audio engineer to create a remix of the advert's soundtrack, to fit in with the length and pacing of the Flash movie, and sourced some sound fx. |
Banner ad based on a print campaign involving balloon animals. I was given a storyboard and asked to create balloon animals in Flash, and animate them. As with most banners, the personality of the piece comes through its movement. |
I was given a storyboard and asked to create grasshoppers in Flash, and animate them. To give the grasshoppers more personality, I made seperate movieclips for each body part, giving them more ability to move around. |
May 2006 Banner ad for the new Nokia phones, which are more elegant than usual handsets. I had to base the animation on the website branding, which featured nice swirly graphics and smooth movement of the phone twisting around. Filesize was the main issue here. |
Banner ad for Orange, based on the four different types of customer, as represented by the different animals. |
January 2006 Role: Design, Flash Design/Actionscript Client: Orange Agency: Taylor Lane Client wanted a popup remote control overlay to control a screen on a banner. Normally I would stream video in, but the functionality of the remote control required a self-contained Flash movie. I edited and compressed the supplied video in After Effects, and exported as a .flv, which was taken into Flash and combined with photography. All the motion is scripted. |
January 2005 - December 2006 Role: Flash Illustration/Animation Client: Orange Agency: Taylor Lane Banner ads for various promotions by Orange. I used Flash to produce traditional style line animations and a mixture of vector shapes and photography to get the desired effect, based on storyboards from client. Most of the trouble in this project was down to the file-size - each flash movie had to be under 12 or 15k. Features on sites like Hotmail, Yahoo etc |
January 2006 Role: Illustration, Animation (Flash) Client: First Direct Agency: Taylor Lane Client provided storyboard which i illustrated and animated. As with most banners, filesize dictates that the personality of the ad comes from the movement and timing of a few elements, rather than relying on provided assets. |
May 2005 Role: Motion Graphics Client: United International Pictures Agency: Feref 15 second teaser for The War Of The Worlds film, to be shown on large screens around London, eg Victoria Station. The client wanted the creeping red weed effect from the film recreated, and to crawl over the text, which was also to reflect the style used in the trailer. Versions were also made to go on the new video screens on the London Underground. |
May 2005 Role: Motion Graphics Client: United International Pictures Agency: Feref Introduction sequence for one of the characters in the new Herbie film, to be shown in multimedia kiosks. Client wanted it to be based on the other character's intros, but darker, because this is for the baddie. I darkened the sky, introduced lighting and smoke, and had the lightning strike a palm tree and the title text. |
July 2004 Role: Art Direction, Design, Animation, Scripting Client: British Telecom Agency: Creativity Works Portal for BT's Access Contracts. Client wanted an onbrand (www.btwholesale.com), Flash update of their current page. Features treated and animated stock BT photography, an interactive map, sound fx and dynamic text updated from external files for easy updating. |
